Susana Bustos, Ph.D. is the director of the Spiritual Emergence Network since October of 2017. She has degrees in Clinical Psychology and Music Therapy from Chilean universities and is a certified Holotropic Breathwork practitioner for over 20 years. After going through a very difficult, life changing spiritual emergency herself, Susana has devoted her personal, clinical, and research skills to the understanding of non-ordinary states of consciousness phenomena, and to the integral work required to support their integration in ordinary life. Her main focuses of interest are entheogens, shamanic traditions of the Americas, plant sentience, song and consciousness, and alternative treatments to addiction.

Susana works as an adjunct professor at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco, where she also mentors students in the Certificate on Psychedelic Assisted Therapies and Research. She holds a private integrative counseling practice in Berkeley, conducts independent research, and lectures internationally. She has published several articles on the topic of shamanic song and healing, the latest appearing in Luna and White’s (2017, 2nd Ed.) Ayahuasca Reader: Encounters with the Amazon’s Sacred Vine.
